Vehicle Description CPR Classic is delighted to offer this lovely 1958 Porsche 356 Speedster which has resided its entire life in Southern California and Las Vegas, Nevada.
The car was purchased new by David Fischer in 1958.
The car remained with its original owner until 1967, when it was sold to its second and longest-term owner purchased the car.
The car remained with the second owner until 2015.
The second owner kept meticulous records and logs of everything that was performed on the Speedster over the next 48 years.
Every time the car was driven, fueled, cleaned, serviced, or tinkered with, the owner would make notes in a 100-plus page logbook that he maintained for nearly 50 years.
In 2015, the car was sold to a long-time CPR Client in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The car has spent the past 8 years with its third owner and arrived at CPR about 5 months ago to have service and reconditioning work performed.
This 356 presents a wonderful opportunity for someone that would like to own a 356 Speedster that they can drive and enjoy at a fraction of the cost of a full concours 356 T2 Speedster.
This Speedster has had some modifications throughout the years, that although certainly enhance its driveability, make the car more affordable due to the loss of some original parts.
During the second owner's time with the car, he elected to exchange the original engine for a Porsche 912 engine in 1968 due to its notably higher performance.
With this decision having been made back in 1968, the car lost its original engine.
The car has also been fully converted to 356C disc brakes which provide much greater stopping power with less pressure required at the pedal.
Other modifications end with a set of aluminum Rudge replica wheels that reduce unsprung weight and make the car more lively on its feet.
This 356 Speedster was originally finished in Ruby Red with a Black Leatherette interior.
The car was color changed to silver over 25 years ago.
The interior is the most remarkably preserved area of the car.
The interior remains wholly original including all covered surfaces and carpet kit.
The knob kit is new and was installed by CPR, and the steering column was repainted as it had been painted black at some point.
This Speedster received an extensive amount of preparation here at CPR.
Upon arrival, it was found that the previous owner had the car dry-ice blasted before shipping us the car.
When the car was dry ice blasted, it removed all of the undercoating on the undercarriage which revealed beautiful original metal.
CPR elected to strip any remaining undercoating, perform minor metal repairs as necessary to the undercarriage, and then refinished the entire undercarriage in correct textured undercoating and the correct shade of black.
Servicing also included rebuilding the entire braking system and installing a new master cylinder.
We also performed a major engine service, carburetor synchronization and tune, and installed a new dual-exit sport exhaust.
Following all of the preparation above, this Speedster spent over a week being meticulously color-sanded and polished to remove imperfections and shrinkage in the paint that had developed over the past 25 years.
The paint now although not perfect, presents in wonderful condition that is very passable for a street class showing at a Porsche event.
This car also has some wonderfully unique history including an entry at the La Carrera Classic Road Race run from Ensenada to San Felipe in 1987.
This 356 Speedster is a lovely driver.
